Vodafone which is the second largest GSM Mobile service provider in the country has recently demonstrated the services of 3G for the first time by making live video call. The Managing Director of Vodafone Essar, Marten Pieters made the first 3G video call from Mumbai to Delhi.
Vodafone was successful in getting 3G licences for 10 telecom circles which include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, UP (E), West Bengal and Haryana. Though Vodafone was able to get the licence for these major circles only but the operator is looking out for the opportunities so as to tie up with the other operators and launch 3G services in other circles as well.
Vodafone has also claimed that with this 3G call they have become the first private telecom operator to do so. The services of 3G will be launched by the company in the first quarter of the year 2011.
