The service providers of the country has been recently asked by the government to stop all the operations related to the 3G mobile phone services all across the country and especially in the areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The government has announced that this hold will remain active till the infrastructure which is to monitor the lines is put in its place. Instructions has been issued by DoT to the licensees which states that Licensees will have to inform the Licensor 35 days before the launch of the services and approval should be provided in a time bound manner by the Licensor.
In a question whether the DoT has taken any steps in this direction, Sachin Pilot, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology stated that BSNL was intimated not to launch the services of 3G in Jammu and Kashmir till the monitoring facility for the LIM to the Law Enforcement Agencies has been demonstrated by the BSNL.
It was also stated by him that 3G services can only be launched by the Licensees after the approval of the licensor and after demonstration of the lawful monitoring the facilities of interception to the Law Enforcement Agencies.
