After understanding the needs and requirements of Tanzanian users, Airtel Tanzania is now ready to expand its network and boost market penetration. Tanzania’s Mobile penetration is currently about 50 per cent. However, limited coverage and high cost of handsets and user fees are among major constraints, especially to people in rural areas.
To boost up its telecom market in rural areas, Airtel has unveiled some new attractive offers in Tanzania. One of such new offer is a bundle package of Nokia Mobile with Airtel SIM card. Company is providing Nokia 1280 phone and equivalent value in Airtel talk time and SMS text messages for just TZS 39,000 (Apprx. USD 26.6).
Acording to Sam Elangalloor, MD, Bharti Airtel in Tanzania, “Airtel had signed contracts with Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to extend its network to rual areas. He added that Airtel was looking to expand its group subscriber base by 150 percent by 2013 to 100 million customers across Africa.”
